42 Stories Anthology

I wrote a 42-word micro-fiction story on the theme of “Fight” for this anthology. The book will be published when the editors have received 1,764 stories (42 stories for 42 themes, or categories) as well as 42 art pieces, one per chapter.

Are you a writer? Consider submitting! The easiest way is to use submittable (https://42storiessubs.submittable.com/submit) but here is a summary of the guidelines from the editor, B. A. Mullin:

  1. Label the subject line 42subs_Category_Initials. Example: 42SUB_PoetryProse_Bam.
  2. The title needs to be 42 characters long including spaces. Use wordcounter.net to make sure you did it correctly. Capitalize the title.
  3. Write a story of exactly 42 words.
  4. Write a bio exactly 42 words long in third person. It is suggested that you make this timeless. (You never know what year someone will read your story. Bios in general are better read this way).
  5. If you want to submit more than one story, none of them can have the same name. You can submit up to four works. Your bio can be the same. The anthology aims to have 1,764 names in it. If you don’t like this rule, only submit one story. Example of pen names:
    Story 1 by B. A. Mullin
    Story 2 by Bam
Story 3 by B. Allan Mullin
    Story 4 by Devilsthrill
  6. Deadline for submission: When the editors have received 1,764 stories. As of August 1, 2020, they were approximately halfway there.

I hope you’ll join me. Good luck!

  1. Hi Debka!

I’m working on a submission for this anthology for the Fight section as well. I was wondering if you have any pointers. This will be the first time I submit work to an anthology, and I’m nervous that I may not have captured the right feeling.

Thanks for any help you can give!

    1. Michelle, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help you with your story for the anthology. The pandemic and the death of my mother took me away from my writing for quite a while. I hope you did manage to submit. The anthology now has all the stories needed for publication. If yours was not accepted, I hope you find success in another publication soon! Best regards, Debka
